21) Benson, Nathaniel A. THE WANDERER; A NARRATIVE POEM Toronto. Issued as a Ryerson Poetry Chapbook. 1930. Stapled in printed card covers. The edition limited to 500. As I find myself cataloguing a considerable number of Ryerson Poetry Chapbooks (I being William Hoffer, former commander of Tanks (retired), former znatok (knower) in the field of Canadian literature, I should like to explain that after the first 16 RPC's the publisher ceased numbering them, except, as it happened, on a rough list that was pinned to the wall in the warehouse at Ryerson Press, until the series reached 60 or so. I once had a photocopy of the warehouse list, by that time gestetnered, and I used to consult it in order to be able to give the impression in catalogues that I knew what I was doing. For almost 20 years I intended to publish it, the list, a bibliography of these occasionally important pamphlets, and continued gathering information about the size of the editions. The scarcest was published in an edition of only five copies. But time ran out and I didn't publish it. The list is lost, sitting, I belie ve, in my archive at the National Library of Canada. I add this note to a description of a book that only a true enthusiast will ever try to find, as an experiment in immortality (perhaps) and bibliography (assuredly). $35.00
